Meet Mr. K

Hi! I’m Kris—though my students know me as Mr. K. I'm a certified teacher and hold a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts with a focus on history and philosophy. I’m endlessly curious and have a passion for learning across a wide range of subjects—everything from politics, culture, and religion to science, nutrition, animals, the environment, and even neuroscience. Though I’m trained to teach high school, I’ve spent the last 12 years working closely with younger learners, from early childhood through the elementary years.

Educational Experience

I bring over a decade of experience supporting students of all ages and abilities. I’ve spent a year as a one-on-one behavioural aide, nine years running a cognitive-improvement program focused on neurodiverse learners and students with learning differences, and two years as an in-house substitute at a private school—teaching everything from pre-JK (3-year-olds!) to grade 6.

Life & Mentorship Experience

I’m not only an educator, I’m also an uncle to two amazing boys with severe ADHD and a proud father to an autistic son and daughter, both of whom also have ADHD. In our house, we live and breathe “neuro-spicy” every day. I’ve seen first-hand the incredible potential in all children, no matter the challenges they face. I’ve also learned the deep patience and empathy needed to support them through the tricky moments.

What Sets Me Apart

I care deeply about each student—not just as learners, but as people. I know school can be tough; I actually hated it growing up. That experience gives me a unique perspective and helps me connect with students who may be struggling. I strive to meet them where they are, with honesty, encouragement, and heart.

When I was 25, I battled cancer and survived, thanks to Canada’s public healthcare system. I could have never afforded treatment out of pocket. It’s not lost on me that taxpayers—people like you—helped save my life. I see the work I do now as one small way of giving back. So from the bottom of my heart: thank you.
